Multi-Toolx1FAQS
Q1: What are the benefits of using the ARKEN TL3000 Weapon-Mounted Ballistic Laser Rangefinder (WMLRF)?
A: Traditional long-range workflows require juggling multiple pieces of gear: ranging with a handheld unit, reading a weather meter, running solutions in a mobile app, and then rebuilding your shooting position behind the optic. A WMLRF eliminates this multi-device shuffle. By mounting directly to the rifle, it allows you to range the target, compute an immediate firing solution, and adjust your turrets or holdovers without breaking your cheek weld. In timed PRS/NRL matches or rapid field engagements, this saves critical seconds and keeps your focus entirely downrange.
Q2: Who is the ARKEN TARGETLOCK TL3000 built for?
A: The TL3000 is a rifle-mounted laser rangefinder built for anyone who wants greater control over their shots without navigating complex, fragmented gear setups. It bridges the gap between high-end competitive hardware and practical field use across several key shooter profiles:
- Competitive PRS / ELR Shooters: Delivers instant ranging out to 2,740 m (3,000 yards) and real-time calculations on the clock without breaking cheek weld or line of sight. Seamlessly pairs with Kestrel® weather meters for live, dynamic match-grade atmospheric updates.
- Long-Range Hunters: Eliminates excessive movement in the field. Instead of ranging with a handheld, pulling out a phone, and setting up behind the rifle while game is moving, you range and receive an exact firing solution through a single button press from your shooting position.
- Shooters Entering Exterior Ballistics: Removes the steep learning curve and intimidation factor of ballistic maths. The integrated DNT Ballistic Engine (a built-in ballistic calculator) and manual on-device MET data entry handle the physics internally, allowing newer precision shooters to build real-world confidence in trajectory and wind drift without needing a secondary device at the bench.
Q3: What’s included with the TL3000, and what additional accessories or tools do I need?
A: The TL3000 is ready to mount right out of the box. The Picatinny clamp assembly is torqued directly to the chassis at the factory, and all essential setup hardware is supplied in the package.
- Included in the Box: Pre-installed Picatinny mount assembly; laser zeroing and alignment target sheet; adjustment wrenches and replacement hardware; two Nitecore NL169R rechargeable 16340 batteries (950 mAh). Each battery charges through its own built-in USB-C port, so no separate battery charger is needed.
- Required Tool (User-Supplied): 12 mm Hex Bit / Socket & Torque Wrench: Required to secure the cross-bolt mounting nut to your rail. ARKEN strongly recommends torquing the 12 mm nut to the laser-engraved specification of 45 in-lb (about 5 N·m) to guarantee mechanical rigidity and prevent zero shift under heavy recoil.
- Setup-Dependent Hardware: Over-Optic Diving Board Mount: To run the TL3000 in the preferred 12 o’clock position above your riflescope, your optic mount must have a top-ring Picatinny rail. If your current scope rings lack an accessory rail, you can add the RPP34-15020 ARKEN Rigid Precision PRS Scope Mount and RP-DB34 ARKEN Rigid Precision Diving Board Mount. (These mounts are designed for 34 mm riflescope tubes only. A 30 mm-compatible version is coming soon.) The diving board positions the TL3000 above your riflescope without obstructing your elevation turret or field of view.
Q4: How long does the TARGETLOCK TL3000 rangefinder battery last?
A: The TL3000 is powered by a standard CR123A battery platform. Operational life varies based on whether you are using a standard high-capacity lithium cell or the included rechargeable battery:
- Standard Lithium CR123A (1,500 mAh, not included): Single-pulse measurements: up to 5,000 ranges. Active duty life: approximately 6 hours under the Real World Duty Cycle (RWDC). Recommended for: match days, field hunting, and extended ELR courses of fire where maximum runtime is essential.
- Included Rechargeable 16340 (2 × Nitecore NL169R, charged via USB-C): Single-pulse measurements: up to 3,000 ranges per charge. Active duty life: approximately 2.5 hours under RWDC. Recommended for: initial optical zeroing, laser co-witnessing, and routine bench practice.
Q5: What is Real World Duty Cycle (RWDC) and how is TL3000 battery life tested?
A: Rather than quoting passive standby times, RWDC measures continuous, high-intensity field operation. Under the RWDC test standard, display brightness is set to Level 2 (Medium), the laser fires a single-pulse range every 3 seconds against a 457 m (500-yard) target, and the DNT engine performs continuous ballistic calculations until the battery is depleted. Because typical match and hunting stages involve significantly longer intervals between pulses, with battery saving features enabled, actual field longevity will comfortably exceed active RWDC figures.
Q6: What is the accuracy of the TL3000’s laser and ballistic engine?
A: The TL3000 provides ±0.9 m (±1 yard) ranging accuracy out to 1,830 m (2,000 yards) and ±0.1% (1‰) measurement accuracy beyond 1,830 m. Its onboard 6-DoF DNT Ballistic Engine uses hardware-optimised differential integration to generate instant, match-grade elevation and windage solutions without lag, high battery drain, or mathematical degradation.
Q7: What is the recoil rating and durability of the TARGETLOCK TL3000?
A: The TL3000 is rated for recoil up to .50 BMG. Field testing confirms flawless, reliable operation even on high-impulse platforms like the SCAR 17 without zero shift or system failure.
Q8: Which wind meters and weather devices are compatible with the TARGETLOCK TL3000?
A: The TL3000 pairs wirelessly via Bluetooth with Bluetooth-enabled Kestrel® weather and ballistic meters. When connected, the TL3000 pulls real-time environmental metrics (such as station pressure, temperature, humidity, and wind data) directly into its onboard DNT Ballistic Engine to keep firing solutions dynamically trued to current field conditions.
Compatible Kestrel devices include:
- Kestrel Ballistic Weather Meters: Kestrel 2700 Ballistics; Kestrel 5700 Ballistics (with LiNK); Kestrel 5700 Elite & 5700X Elite (with LiNK); Kestrel 5700 with Hornady 4DOF (with LiNK). Note: the TL3000 uses live sensor telemetry from these units to drive its onboard 6-DoF solver.
- Kestrel Environmental & Weather Meters (Bluetooth / LiNK Enabled): Kestrel 5000 Series: Kestrel 5500, 5400, and 5000 (must be the LiNK / Bluetooth model variant). Kestrel 4000 Series: legacy Kestrel 4000, 4250, and 4500 / 4500NV models equipped with factory Bluetooth capability.
A planned, over-the-air firmware update rolling out before the end of 2026 will add native Bluetooth support for Calypso® ultrasonic wind and environmental sensors.
Q9: Is the TARGETLOCK TL3000 waterproof?
A: Yes. The TL3000 features an IP67 waterproof and dustproof rating, fully sealed to withstand heavy downpours, extreme dust, and harsh field environments.
Q10: What is the eye safety rating of the TARGETLOCK TL3000?
A: The TL3000 is a Class 1 eye-safe laser rangefinder (905 nm) with a Class 2 green visible laser (515 nm) for laser zeroing. It utilises a dual-laser system engineered to comply with international eye-safety standards (IEC/EN 60825-1), separating target ranging from optical zeroing:
- Rangefinding Laser (905 nm): Class 1 (Eye-Safe). Wavelength: 905 nm (invisible infrared). Safety profile: Class 1 lasers emit ultra-low radiant power and are considered inherently eye-safe under all normal operating conditions. Because the pulse duration and power output are exceptionally low, the infrared beam poses no hazard during standard field ranging, even without eye protection.
- Visible Alignment / Zeroing Laser (515 nm): Class 2. Wavelength: 515 nm (visible green). Safety profile: the high-visibility green laser used to co-witness the unit to your optic’s reticle is safe for accidental, momentary exposure. The human eye’s natural aversion response (the blink reflex, typically under 0.25 seconds) provides biological protection against retinal injury.
Safety Precautions and Best Practices
- Do Not Stare Directly into the Aperture: While Class 1 is inherently safe and Class 2 relies on the blink reflex, you should never intentionally stare directly into either laser aperture or direct the beam into anyone’s eyes.
- Observe Firearm Safety Rules: Because the TL3000 is mounted directly to a rifle, always apply standard muzzle discipline. Only turn on the visible 515 nm laser when your rifle is pointed in a safe direction at a designated backstop or target board.
- Avoid Specular Reflections: Do not direct the green laser toward mirrors, polished chrome, flat glass, or vehicle windscreens, which can cause intense reflected glare or flash blindness.
- Magnified Optics Caution: Never look directly into either laser aperture using magnifying optical instruments (such as spotting scopes or binoculars) at point-blank range, as condensing optics increase optical power density.
Q11: What is the warranty coverage on the TARGETLOCK TL3000?
A: The TARGETLOCK TL3000 comes with a 3-Year Warranty from the date of purchase.
